Özgür Ferhat: We went on strike to be able to live like human beings

Support came from Komotini for the 24-hour strike organized by unions such as the Confederation of Trade Unions (GSEE), the Confederation of Civil Servants' Unions (ADEDY) and the Fighting Workers' Front (PAME) for workers and civil servants in Greece on Thursday, November 9, 2022.
Except for the ruling party, New Democracy, other parties supported the 24-hour strike, which was held in many places throughout the country, especially in the capital Athens.
The workers and civil servants who participated in the strike held in the city center of Komotini were also supported by the administrators of the provincial organizations of the parties.
Özgür Ferhat, a member of SYRIZA and the Deputy Chairman of the Rhodope Provincial Organization, who participated in the strike, emphasized that the strike was carried out so that all employees can get paid for their hard work and live like human beings; "Every individual interprets what it means to participate in a general strike according to their own thoughts. Some go out and strike to protect social sensitivity, workers' and workers' rights and demand the right to live in a humane way. Today, it had a greater meaning for me personally, throughout the country I participated in. It means that all workers, who are forced to go to work abroad thousands of kilometers from the forced livelihood problem and difficult living conditions, whose rights have never been defended in our region, should not be forgotten. It is in memory of our kinsmen and citizens who have been put in the status of second-class workers for decades due to the problem of their rights. I'm sure of you. "We went on strike today so that all employees can get paid for their hard work and live like human beings in a better tomorrow," he said.
