New logo for the State
The new logo will be the statue known as the 'Winged Victory of Samothrace' or 'Nike of Samothrace’
Voting was held at the State Assembly meeting on the new logo of East Macedonia – Thrace Province.
As a result of the voting, the "Nike from Samothrace" statue, which was proposed by Dimitris Petrovic, Deputy Head of State responsible for the province of Evros (Meriç), received the highest number of votes.
17 of the 35 members who attended the meeting voted in favor of "Nike of Samothrace". While 16 other people voted in favor of the other proposals, it was noteworthy that the head of the main opposition, Christodoulos Toptsidis, abstained.
The statue of Nike with Samothrace, chosen as the new logo of the state, was found in 1863 during excavations on Samothrace Island. The statue has been on display at the Louvre Museum in Paris since 1884.
