New highway code in Greece: No more dismissing fines – How drivers will be notified and pay penalties

The new Highway Code (ΚΟΚ) has been submitted for public consultation and includes significant changes regarding how traffic violations are issued and processed. One of the most notable updates is the end of handwritten pink paper tickets, which will now be digitally issued.
According to the proposed changes, traffic violations will be sent directly to each driver's digital inbox via the gov.gr platform, effectively ending the common practice of "deleting" or dismissing fines unofficially.
Drivers who commit a traffic violation will be notified electronically via email or SMS, which will include a digitally signed fine along with a unique payment code.
If the fine is not paid on time, it will be automatically transferred to the Taxisnet system (the Greek tax platform), integrating the penalty into the driver’s tax obligations.
Additionally, drivers will have the right to submit an electronic objection through a special gov.gr platform within three days of the fine being issued. Violations will also be automatically recorded in the point system, which each driver can monitor via their digital gov.gr account.
These reforms aim to increase transparency, reduce bureaucracy, and strengthen enforcement of road safety rules.
