Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met with Istanbul Fener Greek Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew at the Maximos Mansion on Thursday.

The Patriarch conveyed the blessings and well-wishes of the clergy and expressed his joy at being in Greece for the 150th anniversary of the Church of Saint Nicholas in Athens, which operates under the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate following its transfer from the Church of Greece in 2023.

“It is a special joy to be in Greece again, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the church you granted to us, which we now have in the center of Athens,” Bartholomew said.

For his part, Mitsotakis praised the Patriarch’s work as highly significant, adding that his visit offers strength and encouragement. “Your visit always gives us courage, strength, and hope to continue walking the difficult path of our country’s recovery.” Mitsotakis said.

According to national media, during the meeting, Bartholomew presented the prime minister with a photograph of the two of them taken at the Vatican.
