Mitsotakis: Every citizen throughout the country to enjoy prosperity by 2027

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a total of 45 measures to support citizens during his speech at the 88th Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) on Saturday.

 "I am determined to honor your confidence. Putting into practice the commitments for which the citizens elected us. So that every citizen throughout the country enjoys prosperity by 2027," Mitsotakis said at the beginning of his speech.

500,000 new jobs created since 2019

The prime minister referred to last year's announcements, saying that 10,000 people were employed last year while 500,000 new jobs have been created since 2019.

"Last year I promised a transparent system in the public sector. It was done by our own government," the prime minister said.

Referring to the tax justice measures, he said that "we did it despite the political cost. We did it because it was the right thing to do."

Useful and effective solutions

We aim at high growth rates in all regions of the country," Mitsotakis said and referred to nine challenges, including convergence of public and private sector wages, increased employment, especially to women and young people, supporting the productive potential of our economy, green transition, effective response to the demographic and climate crisis.

He also cleared out that he would not announce a package of imprudent allowances, but useful and effective solutions.

Higher pensions and minimum wage

Moreover, Mitsotakis announced higher pensions for 2,000,000 pensioners as of 1/1/2025.
More specifically:

 -Increasing the pensions of 2,000,000 pensioners from January 1, 2025.

 -Supporting vulnerable fellow citizens.

 -A new increase in the minimum wage as of April.

 -1% reduction in insurance contributions instead of the planned 0.5%.

 -Reduction in half of the taxable income for villages and towns of up to 1,500 inhabitants from 500 until now.

A new package of measures to support families to be announced next week 

Mitsotakis referred to what his government has done about the demographic problem, saying that there will be a new package of measures to be announced next week to support families.
Indicatively, he stated that the rights of families with three children will converge with those of families with many children, while he also spoke of free fertility control for women aged 30-35, and also of simplifying EOPYY procedures in assisted reproduction.

New Investment Fund with initial funds of 300,000,000 euros

He also announced the immediate establishment of a new Investment Fund, which will initially be reinforced with 300,000,000 euros from the Cohesion Fund.

EU to approve 51,000,000 euros from the Recovery and Resilience Facility for afternoon surgeries

We are waiting for confirmation from the European Union for 51,000,000 euros from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF) that will be directed to free afternoon surgeries relieving 37,000 of our fellow citizens, the prime minister noted.

A total of 45 measures

Mitsotakis announced a total of 45 measures, including the following:

-The minimum wage is increasing from April, from 830 euros today, with the aim of rising to 950 euros by April 2027.

-Additional incentives of up to 7,200 euros per year to doctors who will staff health structures in remote areas.

-A new program for the upgrade and renovation of hundreds of schools amounting to 250 million euros from the Public Investment Program with the aim of increasing this amount significantly through private sponsorships.

-The Fixed Telephony Special Tax of 5% for optical fiber connections with speeds over 100Mbps is abolished.

-Allowances for new parents are increased by 20 million euros.

-Immediate abolition of the 15% tax on health insurance for children up to 18 years.

-Incentives for innovation, mergers and acquisitions are expanded with tax discounts of up to 315% for research investments.

-Golden Visa" for funds to be imported to finance startup companies with at least 250,000 euros.

-A Cruise Fee is imposed per passenger disembarking at a Greek port (higher in Santorini and Mykonos).
