Mitsotakis comments on Turkish-Greek relations

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Mitsotakis addressed Greek-Turkish relations, noting that he had met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan six times in the past year. He emphasized the importance of the Athens Declaration, signed in December 2023, which demonstrated both countries' desire to resolve their disputes in line with international law. Mitsotakis also stressed the importance of keeping communication channels open to prevent potential tensions.

Regarding the ongoing dispute over the continental shelf in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean, Mitsotakis expressed Greece's willingness to find a solution, stating, "We have not been able to resolve this disagreement for over 40 years, but that does not mean it will remain unresolved."

He further expressed his satisfaction with Erdoğan's remarks that delimiting maritime zones in accordance with international law would serve the collective interest of the entire Eastern Mediterranean region.
