Market vendors suspend strike
Market vendors have suspended their strike following talks with officials from the Ministry of Development and the Ministry of National Economy and Finance. With the decision, neighborhood street markets across the country will resume normal operations starting Friday.
In statements issued by market vendors and producers, it was announced that the presumptive (notional) taxation system and the electronic dispatch note application will be reconsidered. The statement emphasized that these issues will be evaluated by taking into account the actual working conditions of producers and sellers.
The Panattica Federation of Street Market Vendors’ Associations, affiliated with the Market Vendors Federation, said that contacts with the Ministry of Finance have led to a “new and positive framework” regarding the majority of their demands.
According to the federation, the presumptive taxation method will be adjusted to better reflect vendors’ actual incomes, while electronic invoicing and dispatch systems will be implemented in line with real-life conditions encountered both during production (in the fields) and sales (at market stalls).
The statement also confirmed that street markets will operate normally nationwide on Friday and that the previously planned protest at the Rendi Wholesale Market has been cancelled. While talks with authorities are set to continue, market vendors said they will closely monitor developments and keep the public informed.
