Highest temperature in Greece on Wed approached 43C; 78 stations register above 40C
Temperatures exceeded 40C in several locations in Greece on Wednesday, in a heatwave expected to last through the weekend.
According to the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr network of automated stations, the highest temperatures of the day were recorded in Macedonia and Thrace, Thessaly, the Peloponnese, and East Central Greece, where they approached 42CS-43C.
As a National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr map shows, temperature exceeded 37C in 310 out of 551 active measuring stations, 40C at 78 stations, and 42C at 5 stations. In addition, the average high temperature (3.8C) was 0.4 degrees Celsius below that of Tuesday's average, 37.2C (July 22).
