Greek Foreign Minister makes statements on Türkiye
Greece and Türkiye are neighbours and they must learn to live together, Foreign Minister Yorgos Gerapetritis told the Al Arabiya channel in an interview broadcast yesterday.
"We are neighbouring countries with Türkiye and we share geography, so we need to learn to live together. The reality is that there are strong historical baggage from the past and now we are trying to enter a new phase of good neighbourly relations and of course more cordial, frank interactions."
Gerapetritis said that Athens' view is that it is important to engage in dialogue with Ankara and mutually recognise each other's positions.
"We do not share our views in all respects, but what we need to do is actually discuss among ourselves... we think step by step, we can move towards a better relationship and I think this better relationship can be functional and sustainable," the minister said.
Speaking about the war between Israel and Hamas, the Greek minister said that Athens was concerned about the increase in humanitarian aid and the possibility of the war spreading in the region.
He reiterated Greece's "unequivocal support" for the UN Security Council resolutions on a two-state solution within the pre-1967 borders.
