Greek cabinet shake-up as farm subsidy probe widens
Three new ministers were sworn in at the Presidential Mansion, replacing officials who resigned after being named in a growing farm subsidies investigation linked to OPEKEPE.
Margaritis Schinas was appointed rural development minister, while Evangelos Tournas and Makarios Lazaridis took up new cabinet roles. The reshuffle was ordered by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis after European prosecutors sent case files to Parliament naming 11 ruling party MPs.
Separately, Kostas A. Karamanlis announced he will not run in the next election after being implicated in the probe. He denied wrongdoing and said he will cooperate with authorities but step away from future candidacy.
The investigation concerns alleged misuse of EU farm subsidies through the now-defunct OPEKEPE agency and has triggered significant political fallout.
