Email scam alert: Fake NGB messages threatening accounts

In recent hours, hundreds of fraudulent emails purporting to be from "Εθνική Τράπεζα" (National Bank of Greece, NBG) i-bank and customer service have been identified. These phishing attempts aim to deceive users into updating their authentication details, jeopardizing account security.
According to Greek media, the fake emails use the sender name "NBG i-bank: Customer Service" and convey the following message:
"To optimize the security and updates of our platform, we kindly request you to update your NBG account authentication."
The message concludes with a warning:
"NOTICE: Failure to comply with the new update will result in your account being locked."
Another scam email appears to come from "NBG i-bank" but is sent from postmaster@prolifq.biz, stating:
"You are not protected. We have detected that your phone number is not verified, which may lead to a breach or attack on your account. For maximum security, please verify your phone number immediately."
Authorities Issue Warnings
Officials strongly emphasize that such emails should be ignored, as banks never request personal details or authentication updates via email.
To avoid falling victim to such scams, the following precautions are recommended:
Be cautious of emails from unknown senders.
Avoid clicking on suspicious links.
Access your bank's official website directly for updates.
Report any suspicious activity to your bank immediately.
Authorities continue their efforts to raise awareness and protect users from these fraudulent schemes. Stay vigilant and prioritize account security.
