Dora Bakoyannis ‘not surprised’ by Samaras’ criticism of the government

New Democracy MP Dora Bakoyannis, who is also the sister of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, commented on former Prime Minister Antonis Samaras’ speech in Parliament during the no-confidence debate in an interview with SKAI on Wednesday morning.

Samaras, a former New Democracy leader and MP who was expelled from the party in November, sharply criticized the government’s handling of the Tempe case, a move that Bakoyannis said was not surprising.

“This is Mr. Samaras. It’s not the first time he has made such criticism or turned against the party. Did we make mistakes? Yes, we made mistakes. We didn’t need Mr. Samaras to tell us that,” she said.

The Mitsotakis family shares a long and turbulent history with Samaras.

In 1992, while serving as a New Democracy MP, Samaras—along with other lawmakers—withdrew his support from Bakoyannis’ father, then-Prime Minister Konstantinos Mitsotakis, leading to the collapse of his government.

Samaras went on to form his own party, Political Spring, before eventually returning to New Democracy in 2004.
