Corruption Index: Greece Ranks 59th – Failing Score Once Again

Greece remains stagnant in both ranking and score according to the latest Transparency International report on Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI).
Greece has shown no improvement in its corruption perception, maintaining 59th place out of 180 countries with a score below passing levels at 49, according to Transparency International.
The country shares its ranking with Jordan, Namibia, and Slovakia, while Vanuatu has overtaken it since last year. In contrast, Cyprus has improved, climbing to 46th place and increasing its score from 53 to 56.
For the seventh consecutive year, Denmark tops the index, scoring 90 out of 100. However, the report highlights a global trend of corruption concerns, with over two-thirds of countries scoring below 50/100 in the 2024 CPI report.
The global average score remains stuck at a disappointing 43, while even traditionally high-scoring countries like Sweden (81) and Norway (80) have recorded their lowest scores to date.
Another key takeaway from the report is the poor performance of many European countries, with several nations hovering around or below the passing mark. Notably, major economies such as Spain and Italy rank slightly above Greece but have also seen a decline in their scores.
