Authorities in Piraeus have seized a total of 131 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of €5.9 million that was hidden in banana shipments from Ecuador.

Customs officers detected suspicious material during an x-ray scan of the containers’ refrigeration units, prompting an operation by the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) and police.

In the first case, police sniffer dogs Max and Kyberr detected illicit substances, leading to a physical inspection that uncovered 67 packages of cocaine, weighing 78 kilograms and with an estimated street value of €3.51 million.

In the second case, officials found 47 packages of cocaine, weighing 53 kilograms, valued at around €2.39 million.

Investigations are ongoing as officers probe potential links between this latest drug bust and similar cases in an effort to dismantle an international drug trafficking network.
