The Hellenic Police (ELAS) headquarters on Friday denied reports of special bus routes in Thessaloniki targeting third-country nationals, saying it has never participated in or approved any passenger discrimination based on nationality, race, or other criteria.

According to Kathimerini in a statement, ELAS said, “The Hellenic Police has never participated or consented to procedures that discriminate against passengers based on nationality, race, or any other criterion which contravene the Constitution and applicable legal framework.”

Police clarified that relevant services provide information only where required by law for third-country nationals holding “Service Notes” that impose movement restrictions, such as bans on travel to specific regions. These restrictions, officials said, are mandated by law and do not constitute discriminatory treatment. The statement added that ELAS conducts daily checks to combat illegal migration and protect public order and safety.
