Athens Municipality continues free guided tours to historic sites
The Municipality of Athens, in collaboration with the Athens Association of Licensed Tourist Guides, is extending its free guided tours to historic city landmarks.
According to AMNA in December, the program will feature a special free tour exploring the city's graffiti art and a lecture accompanying a commemorative concert marking 190 years since Athens became the capital of the Greek state in 1834.
Participation requires pre-registration through the online platform opandaxenagiseis.gr. Entrance fees to museums, archaeological sites and theaters are borne by participants.
Athens received the title of the World's Leading Cultural Destination
Destination, at the World Travel Awards 2024, for its rich cultural heritage and the unique experiences it offers twelve months a year to millions of of its visitors. The award ceremony took place in Madeira last Sunday (24/11) and the award was received by the managing director of Development Athens SA, Ioannis Georgizas.
The World Travel Awards have been held annually since 1993 and for 2024 the cities competing in the same category as Athens were Edinburgh, London, New York, Paris, Rome, Dubrovnik, Venice, Rio de Janeiro, Beijing, Kyoto, Quito, Hoi An in Vietnam, Barranquilla and Santiago de Cali in Colombia.
