The birthplace of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder of the Republic of Türkiye, located in Thessaloniki, Greece, is undergoing a meticulous restoration aimed at preserving his legacy.

According to Türkiye’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Atatürk House Museum is being revitalized under the Ministry's supervision and the coordination of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA). The project seeks to restore the house to its original character, honoring Atatürk’s memory and heritage.

Reviving the Original “Turkish House” Atmosphere
This Turkish-Greek collaboration focuses on recreating the authentic atmosphere of a “Turkish House,” lost during the last restoration, based on historical photographs and traditional architectural elements.

Restoration efforts include detailed renewal of wooden doors, windows, ceilings, and floors. The building's interior walls are being replastered and repainted, while the garden’s stone paving and wall designs are carefully reconstructed. Modern electrical and mechanical systems are also being installed to meet contemporary standards.

Exhibitions to Reflect Atatürk’s Life
The house’s basement will feature historical exhibits, the middle floor will display ethnographic elements, and the top floor will present scenes from Atatürk’s childhood.

Launched on December 4, the restoration is scheduled for completion by September next year. Visitors will soon have the opportunity to experience Atatürk’s early years and the architectural essence of the era.

This project underscores the importance of preserving Atatürk’s legacy and serves as a symbol of Turkish-Greek cultural cooperation.
