Through inspections at Greece’s points of entry and exit, using advanced X-ray systems and specially trained detection dogs, authorities have dealt significant new blows to smuggling and tax evasion.

According to the Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) report for the second half of 2025, strict surveillance at airports, ports, and border stations has led to numerous high-value seizures.

Between July and December 2025, customs officers confiscated:

⦁ Cash and valuables: 773,355 euros, 101,230 dollars, 10,815 Canadian dollars, 112,000 Turkish lira, 9,900 Israeli shekels, 130 GBP, 5,850 Russian rubles, 17,840 Ukrainian hryvnia, 605,500 Hungarian forints, 2,573 Chinese yuan, 47,540 Serbian dinars, 11,000 Polish zlotys, 21,101 euros in bank cheques, 995,197 Turkish lira, 14 gold coins, and 3 gold bars.

Tobacco products: 4,715,310 cigarettes, 231 kg of loose tobacco, 425 cigars, and 10,780 heated tobacco sticks.

Alcohol: 96 bottles of illegal spirits.

⦁ Other contraband: 27,448 items, including bags, clothing, pills, knives, and 6,262 counterfeit products.

Drugs: 168 kg of cannabis, 506 kg of the narcotic substance KHAT, and 1,010,650 narcotic tablets.
