LAOS leader among eight nabbed in EFKA fraud inquiry
Filippos Kambouris, a TV presenter and president of the right-wing populist LAOS party, has been arrested over his alleged leading role in a scheme to defraud Greece’s social insurance fund EFKA and commit tax evasion to the tune of €1.5 million.
Kambouris is among eight people nabbed this morning in an ongoing operation by the country’s financial crime police in the region of Attica, along with his wife, accountants, and businesspeople.
According to information available so far, the criminal group is believed to have been active since 2021. Its members set up companies using straw men but subsequently failed to pay the social security contributions owed to e-EFKA.
When debts accumulated, the companies were shut down, leaving the outstanding amounts unpaid.
