Opportunities to increase economic and commercial cooperation opportunities were discussed at the 5th "Turkish-Greek Joint Economic Commission Term Meeting".
The 5th Term Meeting of the Turkey-Greece Joint Economic Commission (KEK) was held in Athens under the co-chairmanship of Deputy Foreign Minister Kostantinos Frangoyannis and Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Mustafa Tuzcu.
In the joint written statement made after the meeting, it was stated that the increasing trade and economic relations between Turkey and Greece in 2021 will be emphasized, and that the meeting will have an important function in order to maintain the momentum gained in this field, help to increase cooperation opportunities.
In the statement, reminded that the last meeting of the Turkey-Greece JEC mechanism was held in Ankara in 2010 as well as the importance of re-activating the JEC mechanism in line with the policy of maintaining the commercial and economic relations between the two countries on the basis of a positive agenda and dialogue was emphasized.
Bilateral trade relations, mutual investments, trade issues with the European Union (EU) and economic and technical business in many fields, especially in energy, tourism, agriculture, customs, transportation, were included in the 5th Term Protocol of the JEC, which was signed after the negotiations.
Turkish Deputy Minister Tuzcu met with Greek Deputy Minister of Development and Investments Nikos Papathanasis as well as Frangoyannis within the framework of his Athens contacts. Trade volume between Turkey and Greece increased last year The trade volume between Turkey and Greece has increased by 69.2% in 2021 compared to the previous year and reached 5.2 billion dollars.Turkey's exports to Greece increased by 73.3 percent in 2021. Turkey had a trade surplus of approximately 1 billion dollars. The trade volume between the two countries has tripled since 2005.
