The ceremony was held at the Embassy of Türkiye in Athens and hosted by the Ambassador of Türkiye to Athens Çağatay Erciyes.

The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Athens Arif Mammadov, as well as embassy and consulate staff and representatives of Turkish official institutions. The ceremony started with a minute of silence for the martyrs and the National Anthem. Ambassador Erciyes then delivered a speech emphasising the importance of 15 July Democracy and National Unity Day for the country's democracy.

Emphasising that people of all ages and groups took to the streets on the night of 15 July and fought together against the treacherous coup plotters, Erciyes said, "The Turkish nation has once again shown the world that it will never give up its independence and freedom."

Erciyes pointed out that the Fetullahist Terrorist Organisation (FETÖ) poses a serious security threat not only for Türkiye but also for all countries where it operates, and said: "The fact that Greece is a country where many FETÖ members took refuge after the coup attempt and some of them still live here and continue their activities against our country increases our responsibility even more. For this reason, we bring the FETÖ threat to the attention of the Greek authorities on every occasion and at every level." Reminding that there is a positive climate between Greece and Türkiye, Erciyes said that they want Greece to increase its cooperation with Türkiye in the fight against bloody terrorist organisations such as FETÖ, PKK and DHKP-C.
