Two candidates of Turkish origin have been elected mayors in local elections held in the German state of Bavaria, marking a notable development in the country’s evolving political landscape.

The victories came during the runoff elections held on Sunday, March 22, in the cities of Kitzingen and Rosenheim.

Historic Wins in Kitzingen and Rosenheim
In Kitzingen, 31-year-old Enis Tiz, representing the Free Voters, secured 55.3% of the vote, defeating the candidate from the Christian Social Union, Bavaria’s dominant political party.

Meanwhile, in Rosenheim, Abuzer Erdoğan, also 31, was elected mayor after receiving 53.4% of the vote as the candidate of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

Growing Representation of Turkish-Origin Politicians
The election of two young mayors with Turkish roots highlights the increasing political participation and representation of immigrant-origin communities in Germany, particularly at the local government level.

Both victories are seen as significant milestones in Bavaria, a region traditionally dominated by conservative politics.
