Young Greeks turning to Asia and Africa for travel, new report finds

A new global travel report reveals a shift in Greek tourism trends, with younger generations moving away from traditional European destinations in favor of culturally rich and budget-friendly locations in Asia and Africa.
According to Revolut’s first Global Travel Spending Report, Greek travelers aged 25–34 are increasingly exploring countries like Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Morocco, and Egypt. These destinations saw a travel increase of over 40% among this age group in 2024.
Despite the UK still being the top destination for Greek international spending (18%), overall spending abroad by Greeks rose 5% compared to the previous year, with younger travelers accounting for 37% of that total.
“Greek tourists are looking beyond the beaten path,” said Tara Massoudi, Revolut’s general manager of premium products. “Destinations offering authenticity, culture, and value are in demand.”
Older Greeks (55+) still favor Europe and North America, marking a clear generational divide in travel preferences.
Dining remains the top spending category for Greeks abroad, making up 30% of their travel budgets, followed by shopping (24%) and essentials (16%). The average restaurant transaction sits at €19.
Revolut, a digital banking platform with 55 million users, offers global travel perks such as rewards points, accommodation bookings, eSIMs, and airport lounge access, tailored to meet modern travel needs.
