Sharp drop in inflation in September

Greece’s annual inflation rate saw a notable decline in September, according to data released Wednesday by Eurostat, the EU’s statistical agency.
Based on the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP), inflation in Greece fell to 1.8% in September 2025, down from 3.1% in August. In contrast, inflation across the eurozone edged up slightly to 2.2% from 2%.
Greece recorded the third-lowest inflation rate among eurozone member states for the month, tied with Italy. Only Cyprus (0%) and France (1.1%) reported lower rates.
Across the eurozone, the main driver of inflation in September was service prices, which rose 3.2% year-on-year, up from 3.1% in August.
Food, alcohol, and tobacco prices followed, increasing by 3%, a slight slowdown from the previous month’s 3.2% rise.
Prices for non-energy industrial goods remained steady with a 0.8% increase, while energy prices continued to decline, falling 0.4% compared to a 2% drop in August.
