Over a quarter of Greeks keep secret savings from their partner
The study, conducted by the smart savings and investment app Plum, explored how couples in Greece approach money management, including when financial conversations begin and what they choose to conceal.
Among those with secret savings:
50% say the funds are reserved for emergencies only.
The remaining half use the money freely, without informing their partner.
1 in 10 respondents plan to open a hidden account in the future.
Despite this secrecy, the survey indicates that Greek couples are relatively open about other financial matters:
61% have told their partner their exact salary or income, while 20% say their partner has a general idea.
23% of couples discuss finances daily, and another 50% talk about money weekly.
Only 5% of couples completely avoid discussing financial issues.
Regarding financial transparency in new relationships, 21% start discussing money within the first month, and 18% within three months.
The results suggest that while many Greeks maintain financial independence or privacy, there is still a strong culture of regular financial dialogue within relationships.
