More than 18.000 businesses operate in Bulgaria
We were impressed despite the fact that especially for the region of Rodopi this "practice" of businesses has been known for years and given the inertia of the Greek state in terms of establishing effective policies for the retention of existing businesses or attracting new ones, it is even considered "justified" to a certain extent.
The reason for this is the fact that more than 18,000 Greek companies are currently active in neighbouring Bulgaria, which "gains" from their activity in terms of investment almost 6 billion leva, according to the official statements of the Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Industry Nikola Stoyanov, during a meeting with representatives of Greek companies in the country at the end of last May, which took place in the framework of an event established by him for the attraction of new investors.
Accordign to Paratiridis tis Thrakis, published in Komotini, almost 46% of Greek businesses are located in Blagoevgrad, 39% in Sofia, 7% in Plovdiv, 2% in Haskovo and 6% in other regions of Bulgaria, while according to the Minister, they provide more than 60. He even called on the Greek side to cooperate in order to attract large foreign investments, which, however, requires first and foremost that "we do not see each other as competitors, but as partners".
