Inflation reached its lowest level in 19 months in April, falling to 2% from 2.4% in March, while the last time it fell below 2% was in September 2023.

April’s performance resulted in the average annual inflation in 2025 falling to 2.5% from the 2.6% level in March, according to Hellenic Statistical Service (ELSTAT) data.

At this rate it is set to drop well below the budget forecast for 2.4% for the year as a whole.

Yet despite the overall decline in inflation, prices of basic foodstuffs not only remain high, but have increased compared to last year, with the largest price hikes affecting coffee, meat, fish and fresh fruit.
