Half of citizens feel insecure
About half of all Greeks feel very or fairly insecure about their financial future, with the highest rates of insecurity recorded among people with low incomes. This is according to a survey by Plum, the European smart money management app, conducted with 801 participants from all over Greece.
Insecurity is greater for 43% of those earning less than 800 euros per month, who state that they are very worried about their financial future. Concerns about financial security are recorded more strongly in northern Greece, indicating according to Plum “regional inequalities in terms of financial stability.”
Some 26% of Greeks say they feel very insecure about their financial future, while an additional 19% feel quite insecure. Overall, only 23% state they feel very or fairly financially secure. Plum’s research findings show that citizens are responding by reducing their expenses and boosting their savings, with the aim of increasing their financial resilience; 28% of respondents said saving is their main financial priority, not investing.
“Greeks are facing serious financial challenges, which is causing a strong sense of insecurity,” explains Marily Mitropoulou, Plum’s country marketing manager for Greece.
