Fuel prices in Greece fall close to pre-crisis levels
Fuel prices in Greece have returned close to pre-crisis levels in recent days, supported by a decline in international oil prices and subsequent reductions across refinery, wholesale and retail levels.
According to industry data, the easing of global prices has gradually been reflected at petrol stations, with a typical lag of around four days as retailers replenish stocks.
Subsidy scheme helped ease diesel costs
A state subsidy scheme introduced in April also played a significant role, particularly in diesel prices, which have a broader impact on transport and production costs.
The subsidy, which was gradually reduced in line with falling international prices, stood at 20 cents per litre in April and May and 15 cents in June.
Price trends and market data
Data presented by the Hellenic Petroleum Marketing Companies Association (SEEPE) show that over a four-month period, international petrol prices rose by 26.4% and diesel by 18%.
During the same period, refinery prices increased by 12.1% for petrol and 2% for diesel, while retail prices in Athens rose by 9.3% and 1.8% respectively.
Compared with wartime peaks, average prices have fallen by around 20 cents per litre for petrol and more than 40 cents per litre for diesel, marking a significant easing for consumers.
