Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez: Muslims in the Balkans are not a minority, they are "many"
The conference, organized by the Köprü and Ensar associations, was attended by the President of the Union of Turkish Civil Society Organizations in Macedonia (MATÜSİTEB), Tahsin İbrahim, Köprü Association President Hüsrev Emin, Ensar Association President Süleyman Baki, as well as representatives of various Turkish organizations and numerous guests.
Speaking to the press before the conference, Prof. Dr. Görmez emphasized the historical and cultural significance of the Balkan region and its contributions to humanity. He also highlighted the importance of addressing youth issues in today's world, noting, "I focus on the questions scholars must answer in response to the crises facing humanity today. My lecture will address the concept of the future, as there is widespread pessimism due to economic, cultural, and moral crises, which lead to despair. I aim to explore the causes of this hopelessness."
Prof. Dr. Görmez particularly focused on youth and their vision for the future, stating, "We must reclaim our vision for the future by addressing the role of youth and how we can reconstruct their outlook."
He stressed that Muslims in the Balkans are not just a minority: “Muslims in the Balkans may not be the majority, but they are certainly 'many.'” He emphasized the strong bonds and vigilance that Balkan Muslims maintain, both in spirit and heart.
Ensar Association President Prof. Dr. Süleyman Baki expressed his gratitude for hosting such a significant scholar. He explained that the event was part of a series of conferences and panels held several times a year in Skopje, with the aim of shaping the vision of the future for the Balkans, especially for the youth.
At the end of the program, Prof. Dr. Görmez was presented with gifts by the presidents of the Ensar and Köprü associations as a token of appreciation for his contribution.
