New Greece–North Macedonia border crossing to be inaugurated

A new border crossing between Greece and North Macedonia will be officially inaugurated on Thursday during a ceremony at the Prespes Town Hall in Lemos, northern Greece. The event will be attended by Greece’s Interior Minister Theodoros Livanios.
The project, titled BorPres2, is part of the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program Greece–North Macedonia 2021–2027. It aims to improve connectivity and cooperation between the two neighboring countries by creating a new official entry point between Lemos in Greece’s Florina prefecture and Markova Noga in North Macedonia.
BorPres2 is classified as a strategic project under the Interreg program, which is co-funded by the European Union. With a total budget of €7.5 million and a 36-month timeline, the initiative is expected to boost regional development, enhance bilateral ties, and improve border infrastructure.
The project includes the construction of new customs and police facilities on the Greek side, as well as upgrades to existing police infrastructure in North Macedonia. Additionally, it will establish and promote a new cross-border footpath connecting the Greek village of Agios Germanos with the North Macedonian village of Brajchino—an initiative intended to support tourism and cultural exchange.
Officials from both countries and the European Union are expected to attend the inauguration, marking a significant step forward in cross-border collaboration in the Balkans.
