Kosovo faces four-mmonth deadlock in forming new government

Four months after Kosovo's February 9 general election, the country remains without a functioning government as parliament has failed to elect a speaker, a crucial step in forming a new administration.
Despite 29 parliamentary sessions since April 15, rival parties continue to clash over the nomination for speaker. Vetevendosje, which won 48 of 100 general seats, insists on Albulena Haxhiu as its candidate. However, other parties have withheld support, demanding a different nominee.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has accused Vetevendosje of obstructing the democratic process. With no agreement reached, the session was once again adjourned—this time until June 11.
Frustrated citizens have begun protesting outside the parliament, urging leaders to resolve the impasse. Vetevendosje has warned that failure to elect a speaker could lead to early elections in the fall, alongside scheduled local polls.
