Former President of North Macedonia awarded 'Honorary Doctorate' by Trakya University

Former President of North Macedonia Prof. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov was awarded the title of 'Honorary Doctor of Science' by Trakya University.
A conference titled "The Ottoman Model Enabling Muslim, Christian and Jewish Communities to Live Together" was organised at the Balkan Congress Centre of Trakya University by Prof. Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, Former President of North Macedonia.
The conference held at Balkan Congress Centre started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem. Then the introductory film of Trakya University was watched.
After the concert by the university orchestra, speeches were made.
Governor of Edirne Yunus Sezer stated that the subject of the conference reflects the perspective that the world needs.
Sezer said that Jewish, Muslim and Christian nations have been living together for centuries and in fact, when we look at the 20th and 21st centuries in terms of the concept of civilisation and what they brought to the world, there is nothing. Because there is a concept of civilisation that has abstracted the sense of human and compassion. Therefore, we are living in a period in which tolerance and tolerance towards each other are reduced to zero, individualism is extremely high, consumer society is imposed at the same time, and many concepts in the name of understanding human and civilisation have become abstract and lost their meaning. In an understanding of civilisation that wants everything it touches to be gold like King Midas, we are faced with an understanding that questions "why don't I have a flower garden?". First we destroy what we have, all our values, and then we question ourselves as to why we don't have them." He said.
Former President of the Republic of North Macedonia Prof. Dr. George Ivanov also emphasised that he was very happy to address the conference participants.
Emphasising that the wars in the Middle East, the war between Israel and Hamas, the war in Ukraine and the events in Central Africa are events that threaten peace, Ivanov said: "These wars and conflicts repeatedly raise the issues underlying all wars and the possibility of peaceful settlement of these conflicts. Since we do not have enough time to explain the causes and consequences of all these wars today, let us take a look at the events of the last 5,000 years through various animated videos. Let us first look at the history of empires in the Middle East. Most of the wars and conflicts throughout the history of the Middle East have been connected with the Holy Land. Today, the term "Holy Land" roughly refers to a region encompassing the present state of Israel, the state of Palestine and Lebanon. This region, or more precisely its sites, is of great importance for the monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Jerusalem, the holiest city of Judaism and Christianity and the third holiest city in Islam, is the most important city in the "Holy Land" region."
Stating that 8 billion 60 million words of war were found in the search on the Internet, Ivanov said that the word peace was written 3 billion 100 million times on the Internet.
Stating that humanity is more interested in war than peace, Ivanov said: "When the last 3,500 years of human history, about which there are documents and sources, are analysed, it will be seen that 3,200 years were spent in wars and only 300 years in peace. What is interesting is that contrary to the views and opinions that are widespread today, in the history of the world, peace has prevailed in the Middle East and the Balkans for the longest period of time."
