Saudi Arabia raises alarm after Houthi attacks
Saudi Arabia issued emergency warnings Tuesday for Jeddah, Mecca and Taif after missile and drone attacks by Yemen’s Houthi group wounded 13 people and damaged seven homes and two vehicles.
Authorities urged residents to move indoors, stay away from windows and follow official safety instructions.
The Saudi-led coalition said attacks targeted Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif. The Houthis claimed they launched dozens of ballistic missiles and drones at King Khalid Air Base in southern Saudi Arabia.
Saudi authorities vowed a firm response, saying further operational measures would be taken to protect the kingdom and deter further attacks.
Yemen fighting adds to regional tensions
The escalation follows renewed fighting between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen. The Houthis have also targeted Saudi infrastructure and strategic shipping routes in the Red Sea.
The renewed violence comes amid the wider US-Iran conflict and growing tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran rejects negotiations for now
US President Donald Trump said Monday that Washington was open to talks with Iran. Iranian security official Mohsen Rezaei said there would be no negotiations until Tehran’s conditions were met.
Meanwhile, proposed Gulf-Iran talks over the Strait of Hormuz have been postponed as regional tensions continue to rise.
