Riyadh airport resumes normal operations after deadly attacks

Passenger and air traffic at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh returned to normal on Friday following two attacks that killed three Saudi citizens and injured several others, Saudi state media reported.

State-run Al-Ekhbariya TV said passenger movement was proceeding smoothly, with airport services restored and air traffic operating normally.

The broadcaster said the rapid resumption of operations demonstrated the readiness of the airport’s infrastructure and the resilience of Saudi Arabia’s civil aviation system in responding to emergencies while prioritizing the safety of passengers and staff.

Three killed in two attacks

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation said the attacks took place on Thursday and targeted airport facilities and a Saudi Arabian Airlines aircraft.

Several Saudi citizens and foreign residents were injured, with casualties ranging from minor to serious. The wounded were transferred to hospitals for treatment, while the attacks also caused property damage. Authorities did not specify the extent of the damage.

The agency did not identify those responsible for the attacks.

Houthis claim responsibility

Yemen’s Houthi group said Thursday that it had launched ballistic and cruise missile attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Najran Airport in southern Saudi Arabia and an air base in Khamis Mushait in the southwest.

Saudi Arabia has faced attacks targeting civilian airports since Tuesday, according to state media reports.

Despite the latest incidents, airport operations in the capital have returned to normal, with authorities emphasizing the restoration of services and the safety of travelers and personnel.
