According to Russian news agencies, Putin attended the ceremony of awarding medals to soldiers at the Kremlin Palace.

Putin announced at the ceremony that he will run in the presidential election in 2024.

Valentina Matviyenko, President of the Federation Council, the upper house of the Russian Parliament, announced that she supports Putin's decision to run in the election.

The Federation Council convened yesterday to determine the date of the presidential election and decided to hold the election on 17 March 2024.

The previous presidential election in Russia was held on 18 March 2018, and Vladimir Putin was elected president with 76.69 percent of the vote.
