A commemoration ceremony was held for the 123rd anniversary of the graduation of the Great Leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk from the Manastır Military High School in North Macedonia.

The ceremony held in the former Manastır Military High School used as the Bitola City Museum, Turkey's Ambassador to Skopje Hasan Mehmet Sekizkök, Deputy Chief of General Staff of North Macedonia Major General Azim Nuredin, Deputy Minister of Defense of North Macedonia Chief Kim Hasani, Mayor of Manastir Toni Konyanovski, North Macedonian Deputy Chief of General Staff Major General Azim Nuredin. Turkish Democratic Party (TDP) Chairman and Deputy Beycan İlyas, Turkish National Unity Movement (TMBH) Chairman Erdoğan Saraç, representatives of Turkish institutions and organizations in the country and guests attended.

The ceremony started with a moment of silence and the singing of the national anthems of the two countries.

In his speech here, Ambassador Sekizkök said that the infrastructure of the intellectual life of Mustafa Kemal, who had been continuing his education in Manastır since March 1896, began to form here.

Stating that Atatürk's great prestige in the world, as well as his peace-loving and forward-thinking nature, had a distinctive place in him.

"This principle expresses the goal of a nation to exist in peace and security in its own country on the one hand, and the goal of all nations to live together in an environment of peace and tranquility, in other words, the indivisibility of international peace and security," he said.

Stating that these lands, where Atatürk was educated and associated with the rich cultural atmosphere, are the homeland of the Turkish community of North Macedonia, which forms a bridge of friendship between the two countries and is one of the founding peoples of this country, Sekizkök emphasized that they are always proud of the fact that deep-rooted history and common culture are a source of wealth for the peoples of the two countries.

Nuredin, Deputy Chief of General Staff of North Macedonia, expressed his pleasure at the event where they gathered to commemorate Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

Stating that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk established a bridge of friendship between North Macedonia and Turkey, Nuredin said, "We build, value and respect this friendship in both historical and political, economic and cultural contexts."

Expressing that the two friendly countries have special cooperation in the field of defense, which started in 1994, Nuredin reminded that the relations started with the training of their senior personnel at the prestigious Turkish military training centers.

Emphasizing that they have constantly strengthened the mutual relationship and trust between the armies of the two countries with the realization of joint training and exercises in the past years, Nuredin stated that the cooperation between the armies has been further expanded as NATO allies, and the interoperability of the armies within the alliance has been ensured.

Nuredin concluded his speech by saying Atatürk's words "Peace at home, peace in the world" in Macedonian and Turkish.

Manastır Mayor Konyanovski, in his speech at the Memorial Room, expressed his pleasure in hosting this event and said, "Let's keep the memory of Atatürk, the great character who united the two peoples, alive."

The Military Attaché of the Turkish Embassy in Skopje, Colonel Serkan Çakır, pointed out that North Macedonia's place and importance in Turkish cultural life is very great.

Noting that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, had a great share in the formation of the strong bond between the two countries, Çakır said, "We are very excited to be in a friendly country with which we have common political, historical, economic and socio-cultural ties and to breathe the air of these lands. And we are happy.” 

After the speeches, the guests visited the Atatürk Memorial Room and Ambassador Sekizkök signed the memorial book.
