“Zero tolerance for not wearing a helmet”: 1,325 police checks in Eastern Macedonia & Thrace
Police in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace carried out 1,325 checks between August 25 and 31, 2025, as part of the “Zero tolerance for not wearing a helmet” campaign, which aims to ensure full compliance among users of motorcycles, mopeds, and light personal electric vehicles (LPEVs).
During targeted roadside inspections conducted by traffic police in Orestiada, Alexandroupolis, Rhodope, Xanthi, Kavala, and Drama, a total of 68 violations were confirmed:
- 55 violations by motorcycle riders
- 7 violations by motorcycle passengers
- 6 violations by LPEV users
The campaign also included awareness-raising actions. Police officers in Rhodope and Kavala delivered talks on road safety, helmet use, and traffic education, and distributed informational leaflets to citizens.
The Regional Police Directorate of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace reminded the public:
“We must never forget: whether as a rider or passenger on a two-wheeler, we always wear a helmet. Helmet use drastically reduces the risk of serious injuries in accidents, protecting riders’ lives.”
Authorities confirmed that checks will continue across the region at an intensive pace.
