Western Thrace Turkish Women’s Platform participates in International Balkan Women’s Symposium in Constanța
The Western Thrace Turkish Women’s Platform took part in the 12th International Balkan Women’s Symposium, held in the Romanian city of Constanța. The platform was represented by spokesperson Gülsüm Hüseyin, Komotini Turkish Youth Union (GTGB) Women’s Branch Chair Aslı Ali, and Dr. Pervin Hayrullah, General Director of the Cultural and Educational Company of the Western Thrace Minority (BAKEŞ), who attended as a special guest.
The opening ceremony took place at Constanța’s historic Casino building. During the program, plaques were presented to individuals recognized for their contributions to women’s initiatives in their regions. Across three sessions, participants shared their experiences on the role of Balkan Turkish women in social life. In her presentation, Hüseyin delivered a paper titled “Western Thrace Turkish Women in the Modern Era.”
At the conclusion of the event, participants received certificates and visited the village of Cobadin, gaining first-hand insights into local culture. Attendees expressed admiration for the dedication and perseverance of Romanian Turkish women.
One of the symposium’s key outcomes was the strengthening of ties among representatives from Türkiye and the broader Balkan region. The Western Thrace Turkish Women’s Platform stated that it will continue its work for the benefit of women in the region, building on the experiences and connections gained during the symposium.
