"We condemn the vandalism of January 29 once again with a curse": Teachers' Union
Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union (BTTÖB) administration celebrated the 29th January of the Turks of Western Thrace, who took to the streets to stand against the denial of identity and injustice done by the Greek state.

The Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union (BTTÖB) administration celebrated the struggle of the Western Thrace Turks, who did not accept the injustices, identity denial and assimilation policies implemented by the Greek state, on January 29, 1988 and January 29, 1990, to announce the injustice to the world.

In the commemorative message published by the BTTOB administration on the occasion of the 29 January Social Solidarity and National Resistance Day, while mentioning the struggle of the minority society, they once again condemned the vandalism committed against the Turkish society in Western Thrace on 29 January 1990.

The written statement on January 29 states the following:

HAPYY ETHNICAL RESISTANCE AND SOCIAL SOLIDARITY DAY OF JANUARY 29!

January 29, 1988 is the day when Western Thrace Turks showed an honorable resistance against the denial of their ethnic identity and shouted to the world that they would never accept anti-democratic discrimination and oppression. It is the day when the Western Thrace Turkish Minority, which has formed its own cultural circle with its Turkish identity for centuries, voices with a strong voice that they will live in this country, without leaving their own culture, by feeling themselves as honorable citizens of this country.

Our heroes, who bravely set out on that day to live fairly and without any discrimination, gave us this meaningful Ethnical Day of Resistance and Social Solidarity. We will continue to commemorate the heroes who gifted us this honorable day, on today's anniversaries, to wish mercy to the deceased of this cause, well-being to the survivors, and to express our feelings of gratitude.

Two years later, we have never forgotten, we will not forget, and we will let it be forgetten the fascist attitude that forbade even the commemoration of the Day of Ethnical Resistance and Social Solidarity, which blackened the day of January 29, 1990 in the pages of history, and which entitles vandalism to workplaces belonging to the members of the Western Thrace Turkish Minority.

We are watching with concern the attitude of the European Union, which has been silent for years against the usurpation of the rights of a minority whose rights and laws have been determined by international treaties, in the name of humanity and peace. This attitude causes us to question our belief in civilized concepts such as democracy, justice, human rights, freedom of expression and the right to equal education, which the European Union has been voicing and emphasizing for years, and even forming the foundations of the EU.

Now, we would like our historical associations to become official in this country with their own identities and to be able to benefit from all the blessings of democracy. We look forward to the establishment of a living space where the managers of minority institutions can use their freedom of thought without fear, without being intimidated by the judiciary. In addition, we demand the recognition of our educational autonomy, which is our right, and an immediate end to the closure of minority schools, which are the basis of our existence and cultural survival. We look forward to making a good-willed effort to open bilingual Turkish-Greek kindergartens and new minority schools in areas that are needed, as a requirement of modern and scientific education. In order for our youth to look to the future with hope and confidence, we are longing for administrators to establish a dialogue with the minority without marginalizing and seeing the minority as a danger or a matter of trust.

With these feelings and wishes, as the Western Thrace Turkish Teachers' Union administration and community, we once again sincerely congratulate our minority's Ethnical Resistance and Social Solidarity Day on January 29, 1988, and once again condemn the vandalism committed against our society on January 29, 1990.
