Ferhat questions drinking water projects in Rhodope
Rhodope MP Özgür Ferhat has submitted a parliamentary question to the Greek Ministry of Interior seeking detailed information on the condition of drinking water infrastructure and ongoing water projects across the region.
Ferhat called for comprehensive information on all drinking water projects in Rhodope that have been completed, are currently underway or remain at the planning stage since 2023.
Questions raised over project status
Drawing attention to aging water networks, frequent breakdowns and water losses in numerous settlements across Rhodope, Ferhat said the region’s existing infrastructure needs significant modernization.
The MP noted that numerous drinking water projects have received support from national and European Union funding sources in recent years. However, he argued that the public has not been provided with sufficient and up-to-date information about the current status of these projects.
Ferhat asked the Ministry of Interior to disclose the budgets and funding sources of completed projects, the current implementation stage of ongoing works, and details of planned projects, including their budgets, responsible institutions and expected completion dates.
“Access to drinking water is a fundamental right”
Ferhat said residents of Rhodope have the right to be informed about the status of investments in drinking water infrastructure.
“Access to safe and quality drinking water is not a privilege, but a fundamental right that must be guaranteed for everyone. For this reason, the modernization of water infrastructure must be implemented without delay,” Ferhat said.
The MP said his parliamentary question aims to ensure greater transparency in monitoring drinking water investments and funding processes across Rhodope.
