Türkiye’s Ambassador to Athens meets Western Thrace Community during Eid
Çağatay Erciyes, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Athens, visited Western Thrace during Ramadan Bayram, engaging with local Turkish minority representatives and community members across the region.
Eid Celebrations in İskeçe
Ambassador Erciyes began his visit on March 20 in İskeçe the Sunni Neighborhood Mosque. Following the prayers, he exchanged greetings with Aykut Ünal, Mustafa Trampa, local MPs, association leaders, and municipal officials, emphasizing unity and solidarity.
Erciyes also visited the İskeçe Mufti’s Office, joining Turkish minority representatives for breakfast and discussions on community matters.
Activities in Gümülcine
The ambassador continued his program in Gümülcine, attending the Eid reception at the Turkish Consulate General in Komotini. He performed Friday prayers alongside İbrahim Şerif at the Kırmahalle Mosque, greeting attendees and strengthening connections with the local community.
Tribute to Dr. Sadık Ahmet
As part of the visit, Ambassador Erciyes paid respects at the grave of the late Dr. Sadık Ahmet at Kahveci Cemetery in Gümülcine. Present at the ceremony were Aykut Ünal, Işık Sadık Ahmet (Honorary President of the DEB Party), Çiğdem Asafoğlu, and other party officials.
Engagement with Youth Organizations
Erciyes also visited the Gümülcine Turkish Youth Union, meeting with youth leaders and community members to discuss ongoing initiatives and strengthen intergenerational ties.
The visit highlighted Gümülcine’s continued commitment to fostering relations with the Western Thrace Turkish community, combining religious, cultural, and social engagement throughout the Bayram period.
