The upcoming Development Conference, scheduled for October 3-4 in Komotini, has drawn criticism for excluding representatives from the Turkish minority.
Turkish Minority excluded from Development Conference in Komotini

The event, organized by local newspapers Hronos and Peloponnisos, in collaboration with the Regional Policy Observatory and supported by Democritus University of Thrace, will feature no speakers or local officials from the Turkish minority, which constitutes a significant portion of the region's population.

Despite being held under the auspices of the Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Regional Administration, the Ministry of Interior, and the Municipality of Komotini, only one minority farmer will speak at the conference. This exclusion has raised concerns about the representation of the Turkish minority in discussions about the region’s development.

The conference will take place in the main amphitheater of Democritus University, with over 60 speakers participating across 25 sessions. It will focus on medium and long-term development strategies for the region. However, the absence of Turkish minority institutions and local leaders from the event has become a notable point of criticism.
