Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey Ahmet Yıldız paid a series of visits in Xanthi province of Western Thrace where he came for the commemoration programme of Dr. Sadik Ahmet.

After visiting İbrahim Şerif, President of the Advisory Board of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace and Mufti of Komotini, Deputy Minister Ahmet Yıldız was accompanied by Çağatay Erciyes, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in Athens and Aykut Ünal, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Komotini.

Ahmet Yıldız first visited Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi in Xanthi. Deputy Minister Yıldız was welcomed by Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi and Deputy Mufti Ahmet Hraloğlu and Fatma İmam. During the visit to the Mufti's Office of Xanthi, Mufti Trampa informed Minister Yıldız about the activities of the Mufti's Office and informed him about the recent developments regarding the issues concerning the Western Thrace Turks.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yıldız, in his post on social media, said: "On the first day of our visit to Western Thrace, I met with İbrahim Şerif, Mufti of Komotini and Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi. I stated that we are always with the Turkish Minority in Western Thrace.

Deputy Minister Yıldız then visited the Turkish Union of Xanthi, the Cultural Sycamore of Xanthi. Here he was welcomed by the President of the Xanthi Turkish Union Ozan Ahmetoğlu and the Board of Directors.

During the visit of Deputy Minister Yıldız to the Turkish Union of Xanthi, President Ozan Ahmetoğlu gave information about the activities of the Union. Ahmetoğlu then talked about the legal process of Xanthi Turkish Union. Ahmetoğlu said that when he was a 10 years old child, the signboard of ITB was removed because of the word TURKISH in its name and despite the 40 years that have passed and the ECtHR judgements, our country Greece still does not allow the word TURKISH.

Speaking at the Xanthi Turkish Union, Deputy Minister Yıldız firstly greeted the cognates and conveyed the greetings of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In his speech, Deputy Minister Yıldız stated that he had discussed these issues with Greek bureaucrats many times, that when they were alone, they agreed with us, but that the state mechanism still could not overcome some issues and that they had difficulty in understanding this attitude of Greece.

Stating that Turkish communities have never been separatists in the countries where they live and have never betrayed the state, Yıldız stated that as two neighbouring countries, such problems should be easily solved even if there are no international agreements.

Deputy Minister Yıldız finally said "When we come again, I hope that this caprice of calling Turks Turks will be overcome".

Deputy Minister Ahmet Yıldız then left Xanthi to attend the ceremony to be held at the grave of Dr Sadık Ahmet in Komotini Kahveci cemetery.
