Topsidis called the Ministry of Food for financial support for the livestock sector
The Regional President of Eastern Macedonia Thrace (EMT), Christodoulos Topsidis, requested financial support for the livestock sector due to the plague disease throughout the EMT Region.
According to the information obtained, a total of 8,191 goats and sheep have been culled in four of the five regional units of the Eastern Macedonia Thrace Region since July until today.
In his letter to the Minister of Agriculture and Food, Kostas Chiaras, Regional President Topsidis requested financial support for the livestock sector in the Eastern Macedonia Thrace Region.
In his letter to Minister Chiaras, Topsidis made the following demands:
- Compensation for confinement of animals due to disease
- Increase financial compensation for sheep and goats to an average of 350 euros per animal and additional support for livestock breeders to replace the herd within one year, as well as higher compensation for pregnant animals
- Additional assistance of 100 euros per animal and 5,000 euros for loss of income for livestock breeders, compensation for uncollected milk and disinfection costs
- Immediate activation of the relevant Decision 5.2 programme for livestock reconstruction
