Three new disinfection stations established in Rhodope Regional Unit to prevent spread of sheep pox
The continued appearance of sheep pox cases in the Regional Unit of Rhodope, along with the disease’s expansion into new settlements in the eastern part of the region, has prompted the Region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (EMT) to take preventive action. In an effort to contain and halt the spread of the livestock disease, regional authorities announced the creation of three new vehicle disinfection stations.
The purpose of the initiative is to disinfect the vehicles of livestock farmers and residents of the Rhodope region, particularly professional agricultural and farming vehicles. The measure is deemed necessary due to the imminent risk of further transmission of sheep and goat pox in the area.
According to the Deputy Regional Governor of Rhodope, Mr. Manolis Tapatzas, the mobile disinfection units will be placed alongside provincial roads at different intervals, without disrupting traffic flow. The contractor responsible for the project will install appropriate signage at each location—such as rollers or feather signs—clearly indicating “Vehicle Disinfection Point” for passing drivers.
Authorities urge livestock farmers to stop and disinfect their vehicles when passing through these designated points.
