The late Mufti Ahmet Mete of Xanthi commemorated with prayers
A commemoration programme was organised by the Mufti's Office of Xanthi for Mufti Ahmet Mete who passed away on 14 July last year.
The commemoration programme organised by the Mufti's Office of Xanthi was attended by former President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop, Rector of Thrace University Prof. Dr. Erhan Tabakoğlu, TIKA Vice President Mahmut Çevik, Consul General of Türkiye in Komotini Aykut Ünal, representatives of the Turkish minority in Western Thrace and many cognates.
The Mufti's Office of Xanthi organised a mevlit for Ahmet Mete, the Mufti of Xanthi, who passed away on 14 July 2022 at the age of 57, at the Asağımahalle Çınar Mosque in Xanthi. A large number of cognates attended the mevlit before Friday prayers. After the Friday prayer, pilaf with meat and ayran were served to the people.
After the programme at the mosque, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Şentop and the accompanying delegation visited Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi, at the Mufti's Office of Xanthi. Then the ceremony to be held at the grave of the late Mufti Mete was started. After the recitation of the Holy Quran at the grave, the prayer was made by İbrahim Şerif, President of the Consultative Committee of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace and Mufti of Komotini.
After the prayer, the first speech was made by Mustafa Trampa, Mufti of Xanthi. Mustafa Trampa commemorated the late Mufti Mete with mercy and said that he worked with him for 15 years in the Muftiate of Xanthi and they had many memories together. Mufti Trampa, who also told the participants about the last working day of Mufti Mete in the Muftiate of Xanthi about a week before his death and the dialogues of that day, stated that they will always remember him with his exemplary struggle.
İbrahim Şerif, Mufti of Komotini, reminded that Ahmet Mete, who was elected as Mufti with the votes of Xanthi Turks after the death of Mehmet Emin Aga, was also the chairman of the Advisory Board during his term of office and said that they represented the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace for 15 years and dealt with many issues of the minority. Noting that Ahmet Mete was a person whose word and essence were one, İbrahim Şerif said: "Our Mufti Mete was a hardworking and honest person. May Allah have mercy on his soul."
Mustafa Şentop, former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, said in his speech that as Turkey, they are always on the side of the Turkish Minority of Western Thrace. Şentop stated that for this reason they were in Western Thrace on the anniversary of the death of the late Mufti Ahmet Mete who served the minority. Mustafa Şentop expressed his condolences to Mufti Mete's family and all Western Thrace Turks and stated that they will always remember him for his services and hard work.
Lastly, Mehmet Mete, the son of the late Mufti Mete, took the floor on behalf of the family and thanked everyone who participated in the commemoration programme.
In Yassıören, the village of the late Mufti Ahmet Mete, a commemoration event was organised by the Yassıören Association after the afternoon prayer on the same day and pilaf was served.
