The fire of Mishos (Çepelli) village brought under control
A fire broke out yesterday in the pine forest in the north of Mishos (Çepelli) village of Iasmos (Yassıköy) Municipality. The fire, which grew with the effect of the wind, was intervened by land and air.
According to the information received, it is focused on the possibility that the fire was caused by the fire lit by immigrants who entered Greece illegally and used that region as both a route and a resting point.
After eyewitnesses informed the Komotini Fire Department, fire trucks and firefighters were quickly directed to the region.
Iasmos (Yassıköy) Municipality also participated in the fire extinguishing efforts with vehicles and volunteer personnel.
Although the extinguishing efforts were difficult due to the spread of the fire towards the area where transportation could not be provided, the fire was completely under control on the morning of Tuesday, October 18th.
Cooling and damage assessment studies continue in the region.
35 personnel, 9 fire trucks, two planes and a helicopter participated in the firefighting efforts.
