Term of appointed muftis regents extended
The term of office of the "regents of mufti" appointed by the state in Komotini and Xanthi was extended. The resolution was signed by Education Minister Niki Kerameos.

With the aforementioned decision, which was published recently, the terms of office of the appointed mufti regent of Komotini Cihat Halil and the appointed mufti regent of Xanthi Necdet Hemşeri were extended for another six months.
With the decision of the ministry to extend the terms of office of the mufti regents, the new law on the mufti, which the Western Thrace Turkish Minority did not accept, was implemented in practice.
As it will be remembered, a few days after the death of the Mufti of Xanthi Ahmet Mete on July 14, the government brought the new law on the mufti to the parliament, and the new law on the mufti, including the election of the mufti, was accepted in the parliamentary general assembly.
Western Thrace Turkish Minority institutions, on the other hand, declared that they did not accept the law which was prepared without dialogue with the minority and without seeking the opinion of the minority.
