Tank exercises by the Greek and US armies in Western Thrace
After the earthquake disaster in Türkiye on 6 February, the Greek army, which was engaged in 'urban warfare' in Western Thrace with US and Israeli soldiers, is now conducting tank exercises in the same region with the Americans without an Israeli battalion.
According to the news in TRHaber, Greece, which has been conducting urbanisation exercises with Israeli and US soldiers on the Turkish border, has been conducting tank and howitzer firing exercises in the same region for the last week.
Following the withdrawal of about 5,000 Israeli troops from Greece after the 7 October raid by the mujahideen in Gaza, the Athens administration is continuing the exercise without Israel, but only with the Americans.
The Greeks, who fought an 'urban war' in Xanthi, where Western Thrace Turks live densely in February, are now conducting a Tank Firing Exercise there. The Greek army discussed the measures to be taken against the scenario of a tank operation by 'enemy' armoured units together with the American army.
Finally, Tank Shooting Competition was organised in the war game where topics such as fire at rest and in motion, tank maintenance, emergency response to damage were discussed.
The joint firing of the US M1A2 Abrams tanks and Greece's Leopard tanks was watched as observers by representatives from Armenia, Bulgaria, the UK, Italy and Cyprus.
As part of the same exercise, a few days ago, Greek howitzers and multi-barrel rocket launchers (MLRS) were fired in the areas facing the Sea of Islands. The exercise continued under night conditions.
5,000 ISRAELI SOLDIERS RETURN TO GAZA
The Pentagon, which sent a tank battalion to Greece for the exercise, participated in the February exercise with an airborne brigade; soldiers from 3 countries, together with Israeli soldiers, practised a war scenario on the Xanthi, Komotini and Alexandroupoli line.
The exercise involved an Israeli commando unit nicknamed the 'Oz Brigade' and a reconnaissance battalion of the Nahal Brigade. These units are currently busy attacking Hamas mujahideen and massacring civilians in Gaza.
